Owner and Founder

Dr. Steve Colburn is a 1984 graduate of UC Davis Veterinary School and began his equine and large animal practice in Fallbrook, CA in July of 1984.

Dr. Colburn has a wide range of experience in equine practice including everything from racehorses, broodmares and stallions, gaited show horses, western show horses, rodeo performance horses, dressage and jumping horses, and backyard pleasure horses. He has developed special interest in the maintenance of peak  performance of all horses utilizing his team of associate veterinarians and their respective expertise in managing orthopedic, dental, and reproductive problems.

Dr. Colburn is most proud of being able to offer the latest technologies in a comprehensive, caring, and cost effective manner to all his customers and patients. Creekside Veterinary Service reflects Dr. Colburn and his team’s emphasis on giving back to the community by avidly supporting equestrian riding and advocacy groups in our community.

Tad Bender DVM
Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Tad Bender grew up in Fallbrook, CA and met Dr. Colburn as a young 4-H member needing veterinary services for his animal projects. As Dr. Bender’s interest grew in veterinary medicine, he rode along with Dr. Colburn during his ambulatory calls and received encouragement to pursue a veterinary education.

Dr. Bender graduated from UC Davis Veterinary School in 2007 and came back to join Creekside Veterinary Service in July of 2007. Dr. Bender’s Masters Degree in animal reproductive physiology has given him expertise in the field of equine reproduction and coincides with his particular interest in equine medicine and neonatology. Dr. Bender also has extensive experience in ruminant animal husbandry and care.

Melodee Ingram MS DVM
Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Melodee Ingram grew up in the Encinitas area, riding the show jumping “A” circuit and her passion for the equestrian sport led her to a career in equine sports medicine. Melodee initially completed her undergraduate degree from Washington State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science then pursued and obtained a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences from Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Melodee later completed her Veterinary Degree from Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona.

As a veterinary student, Melodee was highly involved with the student chapter of American Association of Equine Practitioners and had the opportunity to travel extensively to a wide variety of well-known and respected veterinary clinics throughout the US and Europe. One of many unique experiences during these trips includes assisting the veterinary committee with the Palio di Siena, one of the oldest horse races in the world dating back to 1656.

Dr. Ingram completed a general practice internship at Steinbeck Country Equine Clinic in Salinas, CA after graduation. Here she developed a wide variety of skills in all areas of veterinary medicine ranging from emergency and critical care, internal medicine, orthopedics, and radiology. Throughout her career training, equine sports medicine has always been her emphasis and primary practice focus. Melodee will continue to develop as a lameness diagnostician with the goal of growing this aspect of Creekside Veterinary Service. Melodee is a documented FEI treating veterinarian.

Outside of her career, Melodee enjoys spending time with her husband Jon and Boxer puppy Winston on the beautiful beaches of San Diego.

Lynn Richardson DVM ACVS
Part-Time Associate and Emergency Veterinarian

Dr. Richardson provides specialty referral equine surgery and sports medicine veterinary care to horses in Southern California and Baja California, Mexico. He started his practice in 1988 at the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, CA.
