Cooled
Semen Tips
1. Start charting
your mare’s heat cycles as soon as possible.
2. Have her examined and cultured early to determine her current
status.
3. Expect that you will need to have her checked at least
2-3 times per heat cycle.
4. Contact the stallion station and know their collection
schedule, shipping cost, and any other information we should know about the stallion. Does
he ship OK by FedEx or must the semen be shipped by air?
5. Call for an appointment at your earliest detection of heat
as our schedule during this time is hectic.
6. Call us for advice before you pay for the booking/breeding
fee as some shippers have developed ridiculous costs, schedules,
and/or other requirements for the mare owner. We can perhaps
save you some heartache and money.
7. Recognize that there are many benefits of using cooled
semen, but it is seldom a “cheaper” alternative.
If you have any questions regarding the above points, we would
be happy to discuss them with you.
